Under Australian Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) legislation 2011, workers on construction sites in Australia must undertake white card training (CPCCOHS1001A) and have evidence of their attendance from the course, before they are permitted or legally eligible to commence work on a construction site.
1. Why do I need White Card Training?
White card training is the term often used to describe the general induction for construction training. This course/training provides basis knowledge of construction work, common hazards likely to be encountered in construction work, how the associated risks can be controlled and the WHS Laws and regulations that apply.
2. But what is a White Card exactly?
A ‘white card’ is a plastic card issued by companies like Keys HR, a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), which indicates that the person has undertaking the general induction training course for construction. You are required to have this card on you across all Australian Construction sites and must be prepared to present it when requested.
The White card has no expiry date. However, a person in control of the site can request/require a person to undertake a refresher training course.
3. Do I need a different White Card if I move State or Territory?
The White Card course Keys HR offers is recognised across every State and Territory in Australia.
4.
What else do I need to know about White Cards?
Across the different states and territories prior to 2011 other ‘construction induction’ cards were used. To find out if your card issued prior to 1 July 2011 is still accepted please visit:
