Occupational Health and Safety is the responsibility of everyone – managers, employees, subcontractors and contractors.
Keys Human Resources has developed a safety system that helps identify the best way to handle each key activity and ensure that everyone uses the same approach every time. There are five key elements of our safety system, Management commitment, Consultation, Safe work procedures, Training and supervision and Reporting safely.
Management commitment
- Health and safety responsibilities are allocated in the workplace with safe work procedures and policies
- Safety issues are resolved when raised
- Time is set aside for safety activities
- Safety is considered when purchasing items
- Safety is considered when designing work processes
- Safety activities are untaken within the workplace
- Managers are involved in the safety activities and Managers lead by example
Consultation
- Safety responsibilities are communicated throughout the organisation
- There are mechanisms in place for discussing safety
- Management is responsible for safety in the workplace
Safe Work Procedures
- Tasks are systematically assessed to identify safety hazards and risks
- Safe work procedures have been developed for all high risk tasks
- Workers are involved who do the job in hazard identification and development of safe work procedure
- Measures are taken to ensure safe work procedures are followed
- Procedures are regularly reviewed
- Procedures are reviewed after an incident
- Changes to procedures are communicated
Training and Supervision
- Workers are inducted before they start
- The induction program covers relevant health and safety information and issues/risks/hazards
- Workers are trained to perform their job safely, including training in safe work procedures
- Workers understanding of training is assessed
- Supervisors routinely check whether workers follow safety procedures/established work processes
- Action is taken if safety breaches are identified
Reporting Safety
- There are processes in place for reporting safety issues
- The processes for reporting safety issues at the workplace is communicated to workers
- Relevant incidents are notified to Workplace Health and Safety Queensland when required
- Corrective action is taken in response to report safety issues
- There are processes in place for recording safety issues
In addition to our internal Occupational Health and Safety procedures we have specific site verification component. Our safety procedures review the workplace incident reports and identify hazards. The workplace is then scanned to identify any potential risks in the form of a Client safety checklist.
